Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy on Thursday unveiled his final 25-man squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to kick off on August 3 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The announcement marks a significant moment as Kenya prepares for its first-ever appearance in the continental tournament.

The squad reflects a bold blend of youth and experience, with standout call-ups including Shabana FC sensation Austin ‘Musa’ Odongo, Posta Rangers’ in-form striker Felix Oluoch Mboya and veteran forward Masud Juma.

In goal, McCarthy has entrusted Gor Mahia new signing Bryne Omondi, Sharks' Sebastian Wekesa, and experienced Bandari keeper Faruk Shikalo.

The defensive unit boasts a strong FKF Premier League presence, featuring Gor Mahia duo Sylvester Owino and Alphonce Omija, Kenya Police’s Daniel Sakari and Abud Omar, and ex-Bandari left-back Siraj Mohamed.

Tusker’s Michael Kibwage, KCB pair Manzur Suleiman and Kevin Okumu, and AFC Leopards' Lewis Bandi complete a solid backline.

In midfield, Gor Mahia stars Ben Stanley, Alpha Onyango, and Austin Odhiambo headline the selections, alongside Kenya Police's Brian Musa and Marvin Nabwire.

The attack promises firepower with Tusker’s Ryan Ogam, Police's Mohamed Bajaber, Ulinzi’s Boniface Muchiri, and Bandari’s David Sakwa joining the mix.

Speaking during the team's training session at the Nyayo National Stadium, McCarthy expressed confidence ahead of the tournament.

“The preparations have been fantastic, and the lads have stepped up the intensity. I’m pleased with how they’ve responded to the demands of the technical bench, and I’m satisfied with what I’ve seen in training. I’m confident we’ll be ready to represent the country well at CHAN,” a confident McCarthy noted.

Kenya is drawn in Group A alongside African heavyweights DR Congo, Angola, Morocco, and Zambia. All of Harambee Stars’ matches, including the tournament final, will be held at Kasarani Stadium.

With McCarthy impressed by the team’s intensity in training, Kenya will count on home advantage and fan support in pursuit of a fairytale CHAN debut.
