Matano The Lion roars his way to Coach of the Month Award
Tusker’s veteran coach Robert Matano has been crowned the Fidelity Kenyan Premier League Coach of the Month for September /October.
Tusker won four of its five matches in the two months and registered a draw in the other game. They began the month with a 2-0 win over Thika United at Thika Sub County Stadium before settling for a 2-2 draw against Mathare United at Ruaraka.
The brewers then demolished AFC Leopards 4-0 in Machakos. Tusker then ended the month with an away 1-0 win over Nzoia at Sudi Stadium. The final match of the season saw the Robert Matano coached outfit beat champions Gor Mahia by a solitary goal at Thika Sub County Stadium.
“I did not know that I would get this award but it makes me very happy. It may have delayed but it’s a timely boost as we go into the new season,” he said shortly after receiving his award on Tuesday morning at the team’s training base in Ruaraka.
“I’m grateful to my players who worked hard for me to get this award and I want to urge them to work harder and pick the players’ award as the season begins.”
Matano who joined Tusker from AFC Leopards in April 2018 becomes the eighth recipient of the accolade this year after Francis Kimanzi, Dennis Kitambi, Sammy Okoth, Anthony Mwangi, Dylan Kerr, Patrick Odhiambo and Bernard Mwalala
