Mathare sack Salim Ali, Ouna takes charge

Struggling Mathare United have sacked head coach Salim Ali, in the wake of poor performances in the FKF Premier League and his place taken by Frank Ouna, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Salim has struggled to turn around the club fortunes who are rooted at the base of the FKF-PL table on 10 points from 15 games.

In the 15 matches they’ve played, the ‘Slum Boys’ have managed two wins, four draws and a staggering nine defeats.

Club CEO Jacktone Obure said Ouna will be in charge until the end of the season.

“We chose him because of his experience in local football, we believe he has what it takes to help the team improve results that we are witnessing so far.

We lost our best players because of lack of finances and this has affected many teams in the league, we are speaking to some players to renew their contracts as we also look for fresh talent form the academy,” Obure said of their season struggles.

It was also expected that former Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson could join the new-look technical bench, reports Obure has denied.

“We haven’t spoken to bobby at all we just appointed Ouna until the end of the season. The Williamson reports are false and misleading, “added the CEO.

Speaking after his appointment, the new head coach said he is confident his team has what it takes to avoid relegation.

“We have had one training session and I’m impressed with the spirit the players are showing. It’s a process that will require everyone to give 150% which I see they are ready to do,”Ouna told Citizen Digital.
