Mathare thrash Nzoia, Gor held at Posta

Mathare United defeated Nzoia Sugar 4-0 on Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium, handing the visitors their third successive Kenyan Premier League (KPL) defeat.

At the Narok County Stadium Gor Mahia FC were forced to a 1-1 draw by hosts Posta Rangers thanks to a pair of second half penalties converted by Joseph Mbugi and Kenneth Muguna  with the result pushing the champions one point above Tusker FC at the top.

Mathare enjoyed a dominant opening half and should have led early but goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi kept the game level with a sequence of brilliant saves.

The visitors were however undone in the 37th minute when Clifford Alwanga opened the scoring after getting on the end of a beautiful cross to head Mathare in front.

With the second half resuming, Mathare doubled the lead on the 53rd minute through Otieno Daniel, who easily beat the keeper with a well placed shot. James Kinyanjui added the third one on the 72nd minute, before substitute Otieno Tyson finalizing the score two minutes later.

This was Nzoia’s sixth loss in nine matches, who have only won one match in the last 10 games. The win saw Mathare climb to the ninth position with 20 points, while Nzoia are in the 14th position with 10 points.
