Mathare United Friday
afternoon sprung back into FKF Premier League, after beating Darajani Gogo 3-0
in a National Super League (NSL) match staged at Dandora Stadium.
Mathare needed just
a point to secure promotion, having been awarded points from an appeal against
Rainbow FC going into the match.
However, they exhibited
hunger and went for maximum points, earning their promotion in style after a
season in the cold.
The Slum Boys had
appealed to with the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee, alleging that
Rainbow FC had two ineligible technical bench members during their match on May
26.
Against Darajani
Gogo, Mathare scored the opener at the quarter-hour mark through Meschack
Ochieno, before Steve Kimari doubled the advantage in the 79th from the spot.
At the stoppage, Fidel
Otieno sealed the sweet victory with the third goal, which took their season
tally to 79 points – one ahead of second-placed Mara Sugar.
It is now official
that both Mathare and Mara have secured automatic promotions to the FKF Premier
League next season.
It was an emotional
sweet moment for the 2008 Premier League champions, who were relegated last
season after 25 years in the topflight.
