Mathare Women
head coach Ann Aluoch has expressed satisfaction with her team’s impressive start to the second leg of the
Women’s National Super League (NSL) competition.
The team has enjoyed a dominant run,
winning all four of its opening matches in the second round. The results have
strengthened Mathare Women's grip at the top of the standings and given them a
commanding 10-point lead over second-placed AFC Leopardess.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Aluoch said the strong start has boosted
confidence within the squad and reflects the team’s commitment and discipline.
The tactician noted that while the
results are encouraging, the focus now is on maintaining consistency throughout
the remaining matches to ensure they remain at the summit of the league standings.
"It is good that we have started the
second-leg positively and opened a ten-point gap above the second-place team.
The pressure usually comes with maintaining the momentum and staying at the top,
but we're focused," she said.
Mathare Women currently lead the table
with 40 points, while AFC Leopardess trail behind with 30 points, setting up
what could still be a competitive race if the chasing pack improves their form.
With the league set to take a short break
next weekend, Aluoch revealed that the team will not be resting entirely.
Instead, the coach has arranged a friendly match against a Division One side as
part of efforts to keep the players match-fit and sharpen their tactical
approach.
According to the coach, the friendly
fixture will also give her an opportunity to rotate the squad and assess
players as the team continues its push to maintain its dominance in the
competition.
Mathare Women will be hoping the break
does not interrupt their momentum as they look to extend their lead and strengthen
their chances of finishing the season at the top.
