Menengai Oilers delivered a commanding response in front of their home fans after thrashing MMUST RFC 48–3 in a Kenya Cup clash at the Nakuru ASK Grounds.
Coached by Gibson Weru, the Oilers came into the fixture
under pressure following their recent home loss to KCB, but they produced a
ruthless display to keep their push for a home semi-final firmly on track.
The hosts wasted little time stamping their authority on the
match. Alvin Khavoli opened the scoring with the first try of the afternoon,
stretching his tally to 13 tries and strengthening his position at the top of
the Kenya Cup scoring charts.
Kenya international Daniel Kipchirchir soon followed with
another try, while Abutwalib Wesonga calmly slotted in the conversion to give
the Oilers early breathing space.
MMUST briefly responded through the boot of Flavian Otiyo,
who converted a penalty, but the Oilers still carried a comfortable 12–3 lead
into the halftime break.
Weru’s charges returned from the interval with renewed
intensity, quickly taking full control of the contest. Fortune Aturo touched
down for another try, with Wesonga adding the extras to stretch the lead to
19–3.
Victor Were and Kipchirchir then crossed the whitewash to
pile more misery on the visitors as the Oilers’ attacking machine gathered
momentum.
With confidence flowing and the home crowd roaring them on,
the Nakuru-based side added three more tries — one successfully converted — to
complete a dominant 48–3 victory.
The emphatic win underlined Menengai Oilers’ strength at
home and offered the perfect response for Weru’s men as they continue their
charge toward the decisive phase of the Kenya Cup season.
