The two-day event will run from 8:00 am. to 4:00 pm. each day and is expected to attract teams from across the region.
The annual tournament has grown into a major sporting calendar event, bringing together universities, colleges, clubs, senior schools, and junior schools in a celebration of talent, competition, and sportsmanship.
Over the years, the Mitchez Open has earned a reputation for offering a competitive yet inclusive platform for both boys and girls across various disciplines.
Commenting on the competitions, Tournament Coordinator Patrick Mwika said the tourney is an annual event that takes place just before the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games, aimed at preparing local schools to compete effectively in school ball games and other sports disciplines.
''These competitions happen annually before term one secondary schools games just to prepare the teams for the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) calendar. I take this opportunity to welcome spectators, school teams, clubs and tertiary institutions to work together towards nurturing talent in Meru County,'' Mwika told Citizen Digital.
According to Mwika, participants will compete in a wide range of sports, including Rugby 15s (Boys), Rugby 7s (Girls), Soccer, Handball, Basketball, Hockey, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Netball (Girls), and Lawn Tennis.
The diversity of games ensures opportunities for athletes with different strengths and interests to showcase their abilities.
Registration for outdoor disciplines is set at Kshs. 2,500 per discipline, while indoor games will cost KSh. 300 per participant, making the tournament accessible to many institutions and teams.
Mwika has emphasised smooth coordination and quality officiating to ensure a successful and memorable competition.
"Mitchez Open Tournament not only promotes competitive sports but also fosters unity, discipline, and talent development among young athletes."
