National Super League (NSL) side, Mombasa
United, are dreaming big,
with head coach Ahmed Said aiming for a top-five finish
in the second-tier league this season.
Speaking exclusively to a local sports
platform, Said expressed confidence in his squad despite a shaky start to the campaign.
“We've become stronger as the season has
gone on, and our goals are clear — we aim to be among the top teams,” he
said.
“With the right motivation, beyond just financial
incentives, we’re determined to finish in Kenya’s top five and help our players
gain recognition from major clubs.”
Mombasa United currently sit 13th on the
NSL table with 34 points from 27 matches. The Mombasa-based outfit, supported
by the Shahbal Foundation, is steadily climbing the ranks after a string of
improved performances.
Coach Said also emphasized the club’s
long-term vision of nurturing talent from the coast
region.
“It's part of my philosophy to nurture new talent. Over the past five
years, the Coast region has fallen behind in developing young players straight
out of school. We've been relying solely on Bandari FC, but they don't have the
capacity to take in more players. That's why we're stepping in, to give these
young talents a platform to showcase what they can do,” he said.
The team’s recent form backs Said’s
optimism; Mombasa United are unbeaten in their last five matches,
securing two wins – away
to Muhoroni Youth and at home to Migori Youth – and three draws.
The positive run has revitalized hopes of a
strong finish and possibly even a late push for a KPL promotion.
With momentum on their side, Mombasa United could be a team to watch as the NSL season heads into its crucial final stretch.
