Catholic Monks head coach John Isalambo says his boys have finally found their footing in the top flight league and are building on the positive aspects of their game in order to get better results in the coming matches.

Isalambo said despite a slow start to the season his charges are more acclimatized to the league and will soon get more wins under their belts.

“Coming into the league we expected it to be tough because this isn’t the same league we were used to; From Kabras some of the boys have adapted but at the moment we are adapting to the league, to the pace and the competition as well. Last week we had a tough one against Kenya Harlequins which was the first game of the year and the break of course took us back a bit because some of the boys had lost a bit of match fitness but we are still on track.”

Monks who are second last in the Kenya cup standings after mastering a single win in their first five matches in the top flight this season will take on their university rivals Strathmore Leos this weekend at the Madaraka grounds in Nairobi.

Isalambo opined that both teams are of equal standing and is hoping his team will be the quickest out of the blocks.

“It’s a derby and we expect it to be interesting because we are almost equally matched so it will be a matter of who gets the first foot forward and who maintains possession. We suffered a lot  last week because of set pieces that we have been working on; such instances are the situations that will give either of the teams an edge,” Said Isalambo.

Monks were silent in the recent transfer window when most teams were busy boosting their squads, but Isalambo notes that they had done their signings before the start of the season and didn’t need any beef up.

He instead said he was more focused on improving various aspects of the game in his team with keen emphasis on the backline as well as the forwards.

“I have some talented backline players who are fast and very skilled so that’s an area that I am looking forward to continue working on but in terms of forwards there is still much to be done about getting the right quality; It’s all about training and with time I am sure we will get there.

Madaraka grounds which is home to Strathmore Leos hosts a double header this weekend with Mwamba RFC taking on league leaders KCB in the early kick off at 2pm and Strathmore later tackling Catholic Monks at 4pm.

More match day six action will be happening across the country with Blak Blad hosting Menengai Oilers at their Kenyatta University backyard, Nakuru RFC will welcome reigning champions Kabras Sugar at their Nakuru Athletic Club den, as Homeboyz RFC take on Mean Machine at the Jamhuri Park.

Masinde Muliro completes the weekend match up as they play Kenya Harlequins in Kakamega.
