Moraa, Chepkoech shine at Lausanne Diamond League

The Kenyan
duo of Commonwealth 800m champion Mary Moraa and world 3000m steeplechase
record holder Beatrice Chepkoech produced sublime performances to triumph in
their respective races at the Lausanne Diamond League on Friday night.
Moraa who
was facing off with world silver medalist Keely Hodkinson for the first time
this season, produced a tactical brilliance to beat the Briton as she took a
comfortable victory in a season best of 1:53.47
Hodkinson
settled for second in 1:58.37 with Natoya Ghoul of Jamaica rounding off the
podium in 1:58.90
“It was a
very challenging race and I felt completely empty at the end of it. The weather
was particularly difficult for me. My mentor would have been extremely proud of
my achievements tonight.” Moraa said in her post-race interview.
Meanwhile,
Chepkoech stormed to a new meeting record of 9:05.98 as she held off Ethiopian
Sembo Almayew who settled for second in 9:06.82
Olympic
champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda who dropped off the pace of the duo in the
last lap settled for third in 9:11.91
