World 800m champion Mary Moraa has set her sights on winning a gold medal in next year’s Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday, Moraa said her target is to replicate her world championships form in Paris where she will also be seeking to become the second Kenyan to bag an Olympic gold in the women’s 800m after Pamela Jelimo in 2008.

“We have a lot of races next year but my main aim is to run and win a gold medal in the Olympics just like I did during the world championship and I am working hard towards it,” said Moraa.

Moraa won one of Kenya’s three gold medals at the Budapest World Athletics Championships in August with the 23-year-old revealing that she draws a lot of inspiration from her mentor Hellen Obiri.

“She has taught me a lot of things in life through her hard work and discipline she has been able to win a lot of races and my aim is to emulate her success in athletics,” added Moraa who says she has started her build-ups ahead of the new season.

With Kenya being in the red list of the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), the Commonwealth Games champion has urged Kenyan athletes to run clean to protect the image of the country.

“It does not give a good picture to our country but I am happy with what ADAK is doing. They have already released the prohibited list for the next season and therefore calls for personal responsibility. Each one of us has to be very careful to remain clean,” she said.
