MTG United pick Pwani University grounds for KWPL home matches
Newly promoted Kenya Women Premier League side MTG United
will use Pwani University grounds for their home matches, the club has
confirmed.
Head coach Fathime Hamisi Tibu said Kilifi Plantation grounds
will serve as an alternative pitch for their top flight games.
“Due to a lot of sand at our MTG Kilifi ground which degrades
it from the required standards we were forced to look for other grounds within
our locality which will not cost us much to play our home matches,” Fathime
said.
Fathime regretted the ongoing uncertainty regarding the start
of the Kenyan football season over leadership issues that have left clubs
unable to properly execute their pre-season plans.
“Yes, we are still preparing for the league although we don’t
know our fate due to the wrangles between FKF and the Transition committee.”
This left MTG’s dream of top flight return after 12 years to
hang in a balance but Hamisi hoped for the best.
MTG unveiled Kilifi County deputy governor Flora Chibule as
their patron as a way to ensure the government supports the only team in the
top flight from the county and the Coastal region as a whole.
“We have brought her near us so that we can access help
easier from our local government when the league starts,” added Fathime.
The team also lost their key player Nelly Kache who was
signed by Tanzanian women premier league side Fountain Gates ahead of the new
season.
At the same time they have roped in Winfred Nguya from Msato
starlets of Malindi to fill Kache’s void.
