Mulee backing Homeboyz to finish the job as Tusker lurk

Kakamega Homeboyz have the FKF Premier League title race in their own hands and should not cede their advantage, former Harambee Stars head coach Jacob Ghost Mulee has said.

Homeboyz have seen what was a 10-point gap narrow down to just four points after drawing all four of their last matches and allowing the champions Tusker to narrow in on them.

Homeboyz sit top of the league with 56 points and next face second-placed Tusker who could further trim the gap between them to one point.

Despite their concerning league form, Mulee is backing the leaders to go on and lift the title at the end of the season with six games left.

“The gap between the two top teams on the log are only four and this coming weekend they will be clashing in a titanic battle between them when the Homeboyz will be visiting Tusker.

“It will depend on some facts; if Homeboyz will be able to collect maximum points from the Tusker or even force a draw then there will be an enormous possibility that the title will be heading outside of Nairobi, something that we have not seen for a very long time,” Mulee said.

Mulee has lauded Homeboyz head coach Bernard Mwalala for a job well done so far, against all odds pushing his boys on top of the league for the better part of the season and on a possible success of their first league title in the club’s history.

But he has equally warned the Kakamega-based side to be wary of the defending Champions Tusker who are manned by an experienced coach in Robert ‘The Lion’ Matano.

“I think the fixture will be an entertaining one and Kakamega Homeboyz have opened a wide gap of 12 points on top of the league.

But despite Mwalala’s brilliant job, he will be facing Matano (Robert) who sit on an experienced advantage and so it will be a tough match,” Mulee said ahead of the Homeboyz vs Tusker tie in the weekend.

His sentiments were echoed by former AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia goalkeeper Mathews Ottamax.

“It’s like a final in the FKF calendar this season, though Tusker have been winning their matches of late because they have that advantage of an experienced coach.

But for Homeboyz, they have been performing very well but along the way they have looked like losing the ground by dropping points which are very vital at this point in time,” Ottamax said.

The Harambee Stars legend has also said that he will be very much pleased to see Homeboyz lift the title so that it may go outside Nairobi for the first time in many years.

“This is now what we call sweet football because it will be monotonous to always have a team in Nairobi winning the title year in year out.

So for me, I would like this season to be won by the Kakamega team because as you know Kakamega is a herb of football in the country,” Ottamax added.

And for Joseph Milimu the former Leopards team Manager, Homeboyz must not panic and take their games just like any other without any pressure if they want to win the league for the first time.

“Homeboyz for now must relax because it will be their first time to win this title if things go in their favour.

Just relax and take every match just like any other and they will manage, if not then it will be very difficult,” said Milimu.
