Mulongo is setting his sights on the national Sevens team, Shujaa, call-up after an
outstanding performance at the just concluded second round of the national
sevens circuit, Kakamega Ingo 7s.
Mulongo clinched both the top try scorer and top
point scorer awards with a total of 40 points, going over the whitewash eight
times at the ASK Kakamega showgrounds over
the weekend.
Speaking to Citizen Digital after his triumph, the
elated Mulongo expressed his ambition to represent the Kenya national sevens
side.
“I had set this goal before
the start of the season, I told myself I should scoop the top try scorer in one
if not some of these legs and am glad it has come to pass, winning these awards
is a great honor and a testament to the hard work I've put into my game. Am
looking forward to donning the Shujaa jersey and representing Kenya on the
international stage one day. I'll continue to work hard to make this dream a
reality, said Mulongo.
“Our main goal as a team is
to win one leg, we have a lot to work for as a team and we can only hope for
the best,” he concluded.
Blak Blad finished 10th on the log with 15 points
after two rounds. Ingo 7s winners Kenya Harlequins tops the chat with 41 points
while Kabras are second with 39 points.
Kenya Harlequins sensation Lucky Dewald was awarded
the tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Rama Sete of
Homeboyz RFC scooped the Impact Player of the Tournament award.
Brighton Omondi from Tum Marines was the top try
scorer in the Division Two category with 7 tries, while Anderson Oduor from
Zetech Oaks went home with the Division Two Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
The third round of the
national seven circuit heads to the lakeside for the Dala 7s on August 17 and 18, 2024.
