Muluya backs his Sharks to execute CAF job

Kariobangi Sharks head coach William Muluya has said his current composition has the quality to compete at continental level and plans no major signings during the close season.

Sharks earned the right to represent Kenya at the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup after winning the FKF Shield title, defeating Sofapaka FC 3-2 to win the final on Saturday.

Continental governing body CAF has asked the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club to submit their squad for registration by the end of this month and Muluya insists only familiar names will feature in the list.

“This is a great opportunity for my boys to showcase their abilities across Africa and to prove that indeed there is real talent in Kenya,” Muluya told Citizen Digital.

Sharks’ Confederation Cup debut will see them collide with some continental big boys including South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs, Egyptian Zamalek, Petro de Luanda of Angola, Tunisia Etoile du Sahel and neighbors Kampala City Council Authority of Uganda, all which have already qualified.

The revised Football Kenya Federation (FKF) transfer window means Sharks can sign new players between October 29 and January 4 next year should they need to bolster their squad. The mid-season window will open on March 11 and close on April 8, 2019.

The team is currently on a 10-day break after their Shield victroy, which helped erase their 2017 pain when they lost 2-0 to AFC Leopards in the final.

“We are going to give everything in the pitch for the fans and also we will play knowing that we are representing the whole Country,” said Muluya.

Sharks finished sixth on the KPL log with 51 points and produced the season’s golden boot winner in Eric Kapaito who led the goal-scoring charts with 16 goals.
