Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Murang’a SEAL head coach Osborne Monday says he is buoyed by his team’s progress after collecting 24 points, just one shy of their first-round target of 25.

In the opening 17 rounds of the season, SEAL have registered six wins, six draws, and five defeats. Before suffering a 3-2 loss to Gor Mahia a fortnight ago, the Murang’a-based side had enjoyed an impressive 10-match unbeaten run, winning five and drawing five.

The team bounced back to winning ways last weekend with a 2-1 home victory over Bidco United, a result that lifted them to seventh on the standings with 24 points—an achievement Monday says has pleased him despite narrowly missing their target.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Monday believes the team has performed admirably heading into the second leg of the season.

“I have to say the boys have pleased me. I am impressed because we set a target of 25 points after 17 matches, and missing it by just one point shows we are on the right track,” said Monday.

“We just need to maintain this momentum in the second leg and we will move away from the relegation zone.”

“Our main goal is to avoid the last-minute survival battle we have faced in the last two seasons. Last season we escaped relegation at the very end, and we want to seal our top-flight status as early as possible this time,” he added.

At the same time, the former Tusker midfielder praised midfielder Jackson Imbakha, who has been instrumental in recent matches. Imbakha scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over Mathare United before netting the winner in the 2-1 victory against Bidco United.

“He is like an unfinished diamond. He is gelling well with the team, and once he fully regains his fitness, his true colours will show. At the moment he is still struggling physically, but he is giving his best.” noted Monday of the former Rainbow FC player.

Murang’a SEAL will next travel to Nairobi to face Ulinzi Stars at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

In the reverse fixture at the start of the season, the soldiers edged SEAL 1-0.
