Muthomi in, Esakwa out as Mwendwa rings changes

The newly elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Executive Committee has announced the appointment of three experienced executives on Wednesday to steer its plans for the local governing body forward.

Richard Muthomi replaces Michael Esakwa as the federation Chief Executive Officer with the Bachelor of Science graduate from Egerton University expected to deliver a strategic operational plan and essentially run the day to day operations of the federation.

“An ardent soccer fan, Robert is credited with reviving Nakuru AllStars, a legacy soccer club that had folded in 1969. The successful revival of the club in 2010 was followed by success on the pitch.

“In 2012, the club finished fourth in the second tier league and consequently promoted to the Kenya Premier League,” a brief from FKF president, Nick Mwendwa, formalising the announcement said.

“Christine went through a thorough vetting from the World Governing body – FIFA – whose officials took a keen interest in her role, indicating an increasing focus on governance. Before her appointment, she headed finance operations at the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution,” Mwendwa added.

Christine Ojode is the new Finance Director with the Masters in Finance holder, Degree in Accounting, CPAK and registered member of ICPAK tasked with implementation and adherence to sound financial management.

FKF has poached Phoebe Amuyunzu from the Kenyan Premier League as the Head of Competitions and will oversee the administration of the game by liaising with all affiliated leagues and federation’s competitions.

“In addition to her duties, she will serve as the FKF Transfer Management System (TMS) Manager whereby she will oversee the administration player’s registrations and transfers while processing of international transfers of professional players through FIFA’s TMS.

“In 2015, she was awarded the KPL Chairman’s award for her positive work at the league. Phoebe has studied Marketing at Kenya Methodist University, Sport Management at UNISA and Programme in Management Development at Wits Business School in collaboration with Strathmore University and SuperSport,” her brief read.

“Getting the right people for the job is a key enabler not only for the federation but for countrywide programs. The other key enablers are integrity, accountability, systems and clear structures, teamwork and partnerships,” the FKF boss said on the appointments emphasising they reflected diversity.

The FKF President also announced that the Federation will in the next month embark on the search for a professional to undertake the role of a communications and public affairs and the technical docket.
