Fortune Sacco
striker Collins Mwangi has set his sights on finishing the season as the top
scorer in the National Super League (NSL) as his impressive run in front of
goal continues.
Mwangi currently sits second on the top scorers’ chart with 14 goals, just three behind
Syphas Otieno, who leads the standings with 17 goals, while Vincent Nyabuto
occupies third place with 13 strikes. With 13 matches still left to play, the
race for the Golden Boot remains wide open.
The ace credits his scoring form to the
unity and cooperation within the Fortune Sacco squad. One of his standout
performances came earlier this season when he netted four goals in a single
match, during Fortune Sacco’s
emphatic 9-0 victory over Kabati Youth FC.
According to the striker, such memorable
performances are not individual achievements but rather the result of strong
teamwork and support from his teammates.
"It is because of team work, it
feels good to score those goals and help the team but I credit the squad for
the goals. It is not an individual achievement," he said.
Despite experiencing a difficult start to
the campaign, Fortune Sacco have managed to recover and climb up the standings.
The team is currently placed fifth with 42 points, trailing league leaders
Migori Youth by 10 points.
Mwangi believes the team remains focused
on securing promotion to the top tier next season, emphasizing that consistency
in the remaining fixtures will be key to achieving that goal.
Beyond club success, Mwangi harbours
ambitions of representing, Kenya’s national team, Harambee Stars, and
eventually earning a move to clubs outside the country, particularly in Europe.
"Any player playing locally has a
dream of playing for Harambee Stars, so I'm open to play in the KPL, even with
Fortune Sacco. If the doors open overseas, I'll also consider," he added.
