Mwatate United to sign nine players ahead of NSL season
National
Super League side Mwatate United is set to sign at least nine players as they
bid to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
Speaking
to Citizen Digital, club chairman
David Mbaraka said after losing some key players they've embarked on a
replacement process and are finalizing on the new acquisitions.
“We
are waiting for the transfer window which will be active by end of this week to
start registering the new players who will help us achieve our target this
season,” said Mbaraka.
Mwatate
lost their top scorer Ellie Saenyi who decamped to four-time Premier League
champions Ulinzi Stars after scooping the golden boot award with 26 goals last
season.
They
have at the same time tied up their Ugandan coach Bob Odoa with a new
undisclosed contract after helping the side escape relegation last season.
According
to Mbaraka the Taita Taveta county based side will continue to play 'high
profile' friendly matches as they wait for the second tier league resumption.
“We
will just play some friendly matches so as to keep fit as we look for the
tougher teams which will give us a good experience,” he explained.
They
lost by a solitary goal to Bandari FC last month in a friendly match at
Mbaraki.
Mwatate
finished 16th last season with 37 points.
