Nairobi County emerged overall winners of the BFK National Intermediate Boxing Championship after amassing 22 points in a thrilling three-day contest held at Starehe Social Hall in Thika.

Kisumu County finished as first runners-up with 12 points, while Kajiado County claimed second runners-up spot to complete the podium in this year’s championships.

From the opening bouts, Nairobi stamped their authority on the tournament, winning key fights early to take control of the standings.

Fielding two teams due to their depth and high number of registered boxers, the capital side proved a class above the competition throughout the event.

In the flyweight division, Ken Muinda of Nairobi A delivered a commanding performance, forcing Kajiado’s Ben Jacks to retire in the second round under the Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) rule.

Muinda had already dominated the first round with sharp combinations and superior movement, leaving little doubt about the outcome before sealing the stoppage in the second.

“We were here for serious business, and our victories never came easy. We’ll now shift focus to the Kenya Open Championships,” Muinda said after the bout.

Nairobi continued their winning streak in the featherweight category, where Ezra Nelly of Nairobi A edged out teammate Derrick Muthoga on points in a tightly contested encounter.

In the minimumweight division, Abdi Mohammed of Nairobi A secured a narrow 2-1 split decision victory over Morgan Baraka of Kajiado, further boosting Nairobi’s tally.

There were mixed fortunes in the lightweight category. Sam Ng’anga’s bout against Kisumu’s Nicklyne Vidal was abandoned, with Vidal awarded the win. Meanwhile, Mombasa’s Abdallah Juma claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Nairobi’s Eugine Omondi.

In the welterweight contest, Alvince Lincoln of Nairobi A triumphed 2-1 over Abdallah Eric of Kiambu in a closely matched fight.

Mumina Matthew added to Nairobi’s dominance with a convincing 3-0 win against Nairobi B’s Mansur Adam in the light-middleweight division.

The women’s category also produced exciting action. Kisumu’s Maryan Onyango fell short against Nairobi A’s Joyce Nyaga in the lightweight bout. Rahab Mumbi of Nairobi A delivered a dominant 3-0 victory over Josephine Adhiambo of Kisumu in the super lightweight division.

In another contest, Winny Shisiali of Nakuru impressed with her strength and skill, forcing a referee stoppage against Kajiado’s Precious Muthoni.

Elsewhere, Jeremy Ockley secured a 3-0 win over compatriot Zaki Mabeya in the middleweight fight. Nairobi’s Bradley Ochieng outclassed Dennis Faret 3-0 in the light heavyweight division, while Brian Miraj’s bout in the same category was stopped after he overwhelmed Isaack Muondi. In the cruiserweight contest, Mombasa’s Mohamed Hassan defeated Abdi Idii of Meru.

Kajiado mounted a late comeback when Rodgers Muteti earned a unanimous points decision over Kiambu’s Beakay Kamande. However, in the super heavyweight category, Kajiado’s Alfred Achayo suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Kisumu’s Henry Oketch.

Despite spirited performances from their rivals, Nairobi’s consistency and depth ultimately secured them the championship title, underlining their dominance in Kenya’s intermediate boxing scene.
