Nakuru East MP to vie in FKF elections

MP Gikaria, who is also the FKF Central Rift branch chairman, said owing to his experience in the sport he will be going for a national seat.

"I will not be vying for an FKF position in the branch level because I believe I have the experience to go to the national level at whatever capacity," said he.

He said that the existing financial issues affecting the Kenyan football teams should be addressed by drawing sponsors into the league.

LACK OF FUNDING

“Great teams like Oserian and Sher pulled out of the league due to financial issue. I feel like it is time to write proposals to the corporate world to bring them on board to sponsor local clubs,” he said.

The MP said he is weighing his options on what positions are available before settling on one of them before the elections are held in October this year.

“I have written to the registrar of societies asking for a copy of the available positions in the national office so as to know which one I can vie for,” he added.

MP Gikaria said it was unfortunate that Kenyan football had been thrown into disarray by the wrangles between FKF and KPL leading to the development of parallel leagues.

The legislator further said grassroots football needs to be given consideration in order to nurture talent.

The FKF elections are set for October this year when the current administration's first four-year term comes to an end.
