The national netball team is ramping up preparations at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi as they gear up for the African Netball Cup, set to take place from December 8 - 19, at MTC Dome, Swakopmund, in Namibia.

According to Kenya Netball Federation president Immaculate Kabutha, the team is in high spirits and optimistic about their chances in the competition.

“This championship is going to create a significant impact because we are going there to win. Out of the 10 countries participating, we expect to beat them all,” Kabutha said.

Ranked 26th globally, the Kenyan team faces a tough task of winning all 10 of their international matches at the tournament, to secure qualification for the World Championship scheduled for late next year.

The team is set to depart for Namibia in December, and Kabutha is pleased with the strides the Kenyan players have made, noting that two players were recently scouted during the Singapore tournament held two months ago, and will join Singapore’s national league in February 2025.

In addition to the team’s preparation, Kabutha revealed that Kenya is set to receive a wooden sports floor donated by the World Netball Federation. The floor will enhance training facilities for netball and can also be used for sports like basketball and tennis.

“Next week, the contractor will head to South Africa to facilitate the delivery of the floor to Kenya. It’s a valuable donation for the country,” she said.

With strong preparations and infrastructural support, the team is determined to make a mark on the continental stage.
