New home Mumias Sports Complex not a problem for Homeboyz
Kakamega Homeboyz Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi says they are
feeling good playing their home matches at the Mumias Complex, after shifting
from their now shut Bukhungu Stadium.
The Kakamega-based team was forced to
relocate to Mumias in January thanks to the closure of Bukhungu Stadium which
is currently undergoing renovation ahead of the African Nations Championship
(CHAN) pencilled for September 2024.
The Patrick
Odhiambo-led troops are unbeaten in their last three away matches winning two
and drawing once and Imbenzi is bullish they will carry the same energy to
their new venue.
"Generally, something funny is that my team plays better in away matches than at home. For
us to host teams in Mumias as our venue is therefore not a problem, and it
gives the team an added motivation because we feel as if we playing away.
“I hope that
the same spirit we have been showing while playing away matches will remain as
we aim to finish the season strong," said Imbenzi.
In
their last encounter before the international break, Homeboyz smashed Ulinzi
Stars 2-0 in the FKF-PL match at Mumias Sports Complex on March 10.
"So far we
have played a single match at Mumias which was against Ulinzi Stars and we won
the match 2-0 which was a good start for us.
I think if we
continue that way I know we will enjoy playing on that turf as we collect as
many maximum points as possible," Imbenzi said.
Homeboyz will host Tusker FC in Mumias
in the FKF Cup round of 16 tie on March 31.
In
the league, Homeboyz are sitting seventh on 37 points, 13 behind log leaders
Gor Mahia with only 10 matches remaining to wrap up the 2023/24 season.
