NSL: Nyaberi calls for focus as aggrieved Sacco challenge walkover ruling
Murang’a Seal head
coach Vincent Nyaberi has implored his charges to maintain their focus as they
seek to secure promotion to the top flight league next season.
The St Sebastian
Park-based outfit placed third behind Bomet, Fortune Sacco, and league leaders
APS Bomet consolidated their case for a top-two finish by brushing aside
struggling Silibwet Leons 1-0 to haul their points tally to 58, four adrift of
second-placed Fortune Sacco.
Nyaberi says their
resilience amidst a jam-packed fixture schedule will prove pivotal as they aim
to finish within the qualifying slots.
“We understand it
will not be easy now that more than four sides are in contention for promotion.
“I urge my players
to firmly focus on our matches so that we can have fate in our hands at the end
of the season.”
Nyaberi has, at the
same time, urged the FKF Caretaker Committee to relook its verdict on their
abandoned clash against Zoo Kericho earlier this year, in which the latter was
awarded a 2-0 walkover despite not availing a well-equipped ambulance in good
time as required by the rules of the game.
“Our view is that
the Caretaker Committee should employ a non-partisan approach when handling
contentious affairs like our encounter against Zoo Kericho.
“It is a basic
requirement that the home side should secure a well-equipped ambulance in good
time before kick-off.
“We do not
understand why they reached at such a decision when the violation was blatant
and clear on the side of Zoo.”
Elsewhere
second-placed Fortune Sacco has challenged the FKF Caretaker Committee’s
decision to award Shabana a 2-0 walkover for their abandoned match slated for
June 1st this year.
In a letter signed
by club Secretary Timothy Muthike and assistant secretary Julius Kariuki, Sacco
(Fortune) has implored the FKF Caretaker Committee to reconsider its decision,
given that other matches across the league were affected by the Madaraka Day
celebrations that were held in different match venues across the country.
“The events of the
day were beyond our control. That being a government function held in a
government-owned field, we could only wait for the function to end.
“Other matches that suffered the same predicament kicked off albeit late, we fail to understand why this match could not kick off,” reads the statement in part.
