NSL: Sacco keen to close in on Bomet as title hunt intensifies
National
Super League title hopefuls Fortune Sacco team manager Julius Kariuki has
rallied his charges to gun for maximum points in the remaining fixtures as they
bid to take the title chase down to the wire.
Sacco
extended their recent fine run with a 2-1 success over rookies Mara Sugar to
move within three points of top side APS Bomet who have the highest haul of 60
points from 30 outings this season.
Kariuki
who attributes their success this season to excellent work ethic from his
players says they will go all out to collect maximum points in their remaining
matches to stand a chance of automatic promotion to the top tier league.
“We
understand that it will take great effort to secure automatic promotion that is
why we aim to collect maximum points from the remaining matches.
“Last
season we were frustrated with the way we crumbled towards the end of the season
thus we would like to avoid such a scenario in every way possible.
“The
objective is to collect as much as we can from the remaining fixtures to
challenge for the title and secure promotion in the process.”
Sacco
will face MCF, Gusii FC, Migori Youth, and Murang’a SEAL as they aim to secure
their maiden appearance in the Kenya Premier League.
Kariuki’s
side has been one of the most consistent sides this season, a testament
to their commitment to challenging for the title.
He
however says the good run is down to the willingness of his players to make
amends for their uncharacteristic implosion in the last five matches, a slump
that saw the bow out of contention for promotion.
“The
boys have been excellent throughout our campaign this season and I'm confident
they have the motivation to close it out strongly.
“Last
season was a good lesson for all of us even though we felt we could have done
better.
Sacco
will aim to extend their fine form when they take on bitter rivals Murang’a
SEAL on Sunday at the Kianyaga Stadium in the 3.00 pm fixture.
