NSL: Shabana go five points clear at the summit of the table after Naivas raid
Shabana tactician Sammy Okoth singled out his players’ mental strength to shake off a slow start as a marker of resolve this season as they came from a goal down to beat Naivas 2-1 at the weekend to extend their lead at the top of the National Super League to five points after seven matches.
“It was all
about our mentality because we had to dig ourselves out of a hole by staging a
comeback.
“The fact that
we overcame a slow start underlines our mental strength which is an invaluable
trait. We intend to carry on playing like this, one match at a time, to have
fate in our hands when push comes to shove,” he said.
At the same time Okoth says the slippery surface contributed to their struggles in the first half but lauded his charges for adapting quickly and eventually winning the match.
“It[slipper
pitch] did not help our slow start either because it was very slippery meaning
we could not implement our game plan as intended.”
The weekend
win increased their points tally to 19, five ahead of second-placed Kibera
Black Stars and they will be aiming to keep up the new found mojo when they
host Fortune Sacco on Sunday at the Gusii Stadium.
