Storms head coach Abel Nson is demanding more from
his players despite last weekend's triumph against University of Nairobi’s
Dynamites in the Women’s Basketball Premier League match.
They defeated Dynamites narrowly 53-49 at Nyayo
Gymnasium with the win taking them to second on the log with 11 points after
seven matches.
I don’t think it was a great game that we
showcased, we were terrible on both ends of the floor, we didn’t execute well,
failed to follow instructions defensively, we were just all the place,” he said.
He attributed their win over Dynamites on Sunday
to experience and exposure.
“We just
had more talent and experience than them and that’s why we won the game. What
worked for us also is that our new signing Barbra carried us as usual 23 points
and nine rebounds followed by Lavender with 12 points and ten rebounds; the two
carried the load of offense which is 35 points out of 53 points we had as a
team.
We are not playing the way we expect to play, so
we are not really happy even as we prepare to face Zetech Sparks in our next
match. We hope to change all these during this week, nevertheless we are
grateful for the win as a win is a win,” Nson added.
In their Sunday’s game, Storms started on a wrong
foot losing first quarter 10-14 before winning second quarter 16-06 as they
went to halftime leading 26-20.
After the break, Storms came back strongly,
narrowly winning the third quarter 15-14 before losing last quarter 12-15 as
the game ended 53-49 at the final buzzer.
Storms have now played seven matches, winning four
and losing three and have moved to second place with 11 points.
On their part UON Dynamites have now played six
matches, winning one and losing five and despite the loss they have moved to
one place up to ninth position with seven points.
Elsewhere, Africa Nazarene University’s Wolfpacks
head coach Michael Oluoch said their win against Umoja was a hard fought one.
Wolfpacks hammered Umoja 48-41 at Nyayo Gymnasium,
Nairobi in the men's premier league match.
“The boys really fought hard, it was a very big plus for us, it’s a morale booster for us and we are doing well, we now shift focus to other games and I hope we will continue winning to improve our standings,” Oluoch said.
Wolfpacks have now played nine matches, winning
four and losing five accumulating 13 points in position four while Umoja have
played six matches so far, winning three and losing three, currently with nine
points in position six.
