Nzoia coach Babu cites ‘inexperience’ for Police defeat, bullish of title charge

Nzoia Sugar head
coach Salim Babu says his side fell 2-0 against Police FC in a league match
staged at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday due to inexperience.
According to the
former Kisumu All-Stars tactician, they have to collect a win in their next
match to ensure they keep within touching distance of top teams in the league
who picked points over the weekend.
“My strikers lacked experience, you know
having come in from League One, we created chances but they failed to convert,
but again we're not going to put any pressure on ourselves, our target is to
win our next game, basically, and we’re taking a match at a time.
At the end of
the season we shall see where we are, but I'm sure the strong start to the
season will land us somewhere respectable even without going all the way,"
Babu told Citizen Digital.
Nzoia Sugar FC
are so far the surprise package of the 2022-23 Football Kenya Federation
Premier League (FKFPL) season. They have so far won six of their 11 league
match, including an impressive 4-0 rout of Wazito last week, and stand a
realistic chance of challenging for the gong if they keep the momentum.
"I told my
players from the start that if you want to win then you must play good
football, and enjoy yourselves, that way wins will automatically come."
Aside from
Tusker FC (16), Nzoia Sugar is one of the highest scoring teams in the league
with 12 goals. Also, their defense is one of the meanest and have only conceded
six times. Gor Mahia (4), who have played two games less, boasts the most solid
backline.
Nzoia sit third on FKF-PL log on 21 points, two shy of league leaders and defending champions Tusker who defeated Sofapaka 1-0 on Sunday.
