Nzoia Sugar Football Club head coach, Charles Odero, has attributed their narrow 1-0 defeat to APS Bomet in a National Super League (NSL) match at the weekend to sheer bad luck.

The loss, which saw Nzoia concede early in the 14th minute through a penalty, was the result of a defensive lapse when one of their defenders handled the ball inside the penalty area.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after the defeat at Sudi Stadium, Odero defended his players but put the blame on bad luck instead. The side is yet to record a win even as the NSL gains momentum.

"The boys gave it their all, but we were simply unlucky," Odero said after the match. "Conceding that penalty was unfortunate, and despite our efforts, we couldn't recover."

The fixture, played at Nzoia's home ground was marred by heavy rainfall, which forced the referee to halt the game in the 52nd minute on Sunday. The remaining portion of the game was played the following day, Monday, but Nzoia could not find a breakthrough to overturn the one-goal deficit.

Nzoia’s misfortune places them in a challenging position on the league table. After three matches, they find themselves in 17th place with only 2 points. On the other hand, their opponents, APS Bomet, sit comfortably in third place with 7 points, signaling their strong start to the season.

While Odero maintains that luck was not on their side, Nzoia will need to quickly regroup and focus on their upcoming fixtures if they are to avoid sinking further into the relegation drop zone.
