Nzoia FC and Sony’s target Masita out to impress at Stars

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club, Sony Sugar FC, are keen to snap Nzoia United top-striker, Masita Bitolwa Masuta who joined national team Harambee Stars in camp after earning his maiden call-up.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the National Super League (NSL) high-flyers team manager, Evans Kadenge, acknowledged the 2006 champions are eyeing Masita who has plundered in seven goals this term to aid their push for promotion.

“We have no objection, so long as they follow the right procedure; however that will not stop us from fighting hard to join the KPL next season.

“You know if you pick a player from high school then other big teams show interest to sign him that means you have done a good job, you have identified the talent, nurtured it and then exposed it to those big clubs,” the official asserted.

Kadenge is backing Masita to make the final squad that will play in two international friendlies this weekend against Sudan and Tanzania after being given a first call-up by Stars first coach, Stanley Okumbi.

The former two-time national will be delighted to welcome NSL whipping boys, Shabana FC on Wednesday without their top scorer who has aided the side establish themselves as early contenders to fight for promotion back to the top flight.

Nzoia are third on 28 points, two behind leaders Nakumatt FC with a game in hand and victory will lift them top.

They welcome NSL basement side and fellow fallen top-flight giants, Shabana, who have lost all four of their fixtures after being belatedly admitted to the second-tier, conceding nine and scoring none at Bungoma’s Sudi Stadium.

Masita signed off in style before travelling to Nairobi to join Stars when he fired in a thunderous free-kick in stoppage-time to preserve his team’s unbeaten record in their pulsating 2-2 draw with promotion rival, Zoo Kericho at the same venue on Sunday.

“Yes, he is a good striker, he helped us get a point during our two all draw against Zoo Kericho on Sunday where he scored the equalizer but we cannot say without him we cannot play or we cannot win.

“This team is mainly known for grooming young players for bigger tasks ahead of them, so as a team we are very happy whenever they are called for bigger duties and we always wish him well,” the official said of their top scorer Masita.

“We have enough good players and exclusion of Masita will not affect the team in any way, we have already tasked Brian Yakhama the son of former Harambee Stars player Nick Yakhama to fill the gap,” he added.

Last year, the team lost three of their best players to KPL sides with Boniface Muchiri and Maxwell Sikolia joining Awendo-based Sony while Mark Bikokwa moved to 2010 champions Ulinzi Stars.

Masita hails from Khalumuli Village of Webuye West Sub-County in  Bungoma.

According to his Milo Secondary School assistant coach who is also his paternal uncle Marango Bitolwa, he showed a lot of dedication in his early days and they were sure he would hit higher heights.
