Nzoia FC bullish as Nakumatt get ready to pounce

Nzoia FC believe they have what it takes to finally crack into the Kenyan Premier League as the National Super League (NSL) leaders welcome promotion rivals Zoo Kericho in the top clash of the weekend fixtures on Sunday.

The sugar millers and former two-time national champions scaled to the summit of the NSL table on 44 points after recording a 3-1 win against Oserian last weekend.

Nakumatt FC slumped to second on the log, two points behind leaders Nzoia. Zoo Kericho seals the top three on 38 in what remains a tight competition to decide the top two teams who will feature in the KPL next season.

Beating another direct challenger in the race to bag at least two automatic promotion places to the top flight will be the biggest statement of intent in the tight battle to escape the second tier.

“If you want to be a champion, you must conquer other champions, we believe we have the potential of not only promotion to the top flight league but also topping the Super League by the end of the season.

“We shall be ready to justify our performance tomorrow as we battle with our favorite colleagues. Defending our unbeaten record will be our major motivator.” Revealed Evans Kadenge, Nzoia Team Manager.

On the other hand, Zoo Kericho Team Manager Ibrahim Muganda is counting on luck to prevail over Bernard Mwalala’s boys.

“Even though we have been playing well for the past three games, we ended drawing all the matches. In this weekend’s big clash we hope luck will see us through.

“They are the most competitive opponents having not lost any match so far, however we shall not be intimidated by their record.”Muganda told Citizen Digital.

Nakumatt FC will be looking forward to pounce back from last week’s 2-1 shock loss to Bidco. The retailers will be hosted by bottom rocked Ligi Ndogo FC side at Camp Toyoyo grounds in Jericho.

Talanta who upset Nairobi Stima 1-0 will welcome former Flight giants Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) at Safaricom Stadium Kasarani while Bidco battle out with Wazito at Thika Municipal Stadium.

Gusii based Shabana FC who grabbed their second win against Nakuru all-stars last weekend will have a rest as their  rivals Moyas FC in Sunday’s scheduled clash  will be defending their Kenya Communications Sports Organization (KECOSO) football title on Saturday at Nakuru.

Agro chemicals will fancy taking maximum points from Nakuru with their hosts Nakuru All stars who were demoted from the top flight at the end of last season only managing to secure 19 points from 19 games.

In other round of matches, Palos shall be fighting for a position to remain in the tournament when they shall face on Nairobi Stima while Oserian lock horns with Modern Coast Rangers.
