National Super League side Nzoia Sugar FC is urgently searching for a new coach following the sudden departure of their former coach, Mike Mururi, and his assistant, who failed to return to camp ahead of the new season.
In response to this unexpected development, the club's management is moving swiftly to secure a replacement who can guide the team through the upcoming challenges. Former player Peter Ginn has stepped in as interim coach while the search for Mururi's successor continues.
Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital, Nzoia Sugar FC Chairman Yepets Mokua confirmed that the search for a new coach is already underway.
“We are working quickly to find a new coach as soon as possible. We must get someone who can step in immediately and begin preparations with the team,” Mokua stated.
However, the search comes with its own set of challenges. Mokua highlighted the club’s financial constraints, noting that they are looking for a coach who is not only skilled but also mindful of the club's financial realities.
“We want a coach who will understand our financial situation. We are waiting for direction from the club's board to address this matter,” he added, indicating that the final decision will be made with the club's long-term sustainability in mind.
In addition to the coaching situation, Nzoia Sugar FC is also changing within its squad. Mokua revealed that their captain, Thomas Haron, has left the club to join another NSL outfit, Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA), marking a significant shift in the team’s leadership.
Despite this loss, Mokua remains optimistic, emphasizing the club’s focus on recruiting young players to fill the void left by Haron’s departure.
“Our priority is to build a strong, youthful squad that can compete at the highest level. We believe in nurturing talent, and this is an opportunity to bring in fresh blood that will drive the team forward,” Mokua explained.
The coming weeks are crucial for the club, as the decisions made now will likely define their performance in the months to come after failing to maintain their Premier League status last season
