Police FC head coach
John 'Bobby' Ogolla has blamed his goalkeeper Reuben Otieno Juma for the weekend
defeat suffered at the hands of Wazito FC in a Kenyan Premier League match
played at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Police conceded three
goals in the first half and had to substitute goalkeeper Reuben Otieno Juma for
Job Ochieng in the second half, as they tried to fight their way back in the
match which ended in a 3-2 defeat.
“They were very simple goals to concede in a match that we really wanted to win. The truth of the matter is that the goalkeeper failed to stop the ball and that the two quick goals which we conceded in a short span destabilized the team, and that's why we had to make the changes at half time ,”said Ogolla
The big spenders are
yet to get a win in their last five matches despite signing top players including Kenyan international midfielder Francis Kahata, former Gor Mahia
skipper Haron Shakava and former AFC
Leopards striker Elvis Rupia.
Ogolla has at the same
time challenged his strikers to capitalize on the many chances they are
creating during matches.
“Our strikers must
improve on their finishing, we are creating many chances that we fail to convert and that has led to us dropping points. It has to change in the coming game, if a
team scores against you its only logical that you outscore them for you to win
matches ," Ogolla, clearly unimpressed with the defeat, said.
Thirteenth in the league standings with 22 points from 19 games, Police will next face the
defending champions Tusker FC on Saturday, a match Ogolla expects to be tough
going by Tusker's recent form.
“The last five games we
have dropped many points, something that is not good for a team like ours. Tusker's recent run show that they are in the race to try and retain the league title and its going to be a very tough match for us,” the veteran
tactician concluded.
