Ulinzi Starlets head coach Collins Ochieng has regretted bowing out of
the FKF Women’s Cup at the last eight stage, saying it has demoralised his
charges, who he says were eager to go all the way.
The soldiers were beaten 4-3 on penalties after goalless draw by Kibera
Soccer Ladies at the Dandora Stadium on Sunday, meaning they relinquish the title
they have won four times in a row.
Kibera who fell 2-1 against Ulinzi in the FKF Cup last season will now
meet Premier League champions Kenya Police Bullets.
Bullets on the other hand stormed to the last four after defeating Zetech Sparks 3-0 at the same stadium.
Police will be eying their second title this
season after securing the FKF Women’s Premier League title a week ago.
In an interview with Citizen
Digital, Ochieng says they have accepted the loss and will work hard to
secure the title next season.
“We were bundled out via penalties and not in normal time. Any team can
win on Penalties but we accept the result and move on. We were aiming to win
the title for the fourth time in row but it’s so unfortunate that we were
eliminated.
“Kibera is always a good team they deserved to win. We wish them all the
best,” Ochieng said.
Elsewhere at the ASK Showground in Nakuru, Bungoma Queens beat Trinity
Queens 3-0, thus setting up a semi-final with Vihiga Queens who, in their part,
defeated Eldoret Falcons 4-1 on penalties after a goalless draw.
“I’m very happy for my side, they really fought hard and now we are
preparing to face Vihiga. We understand they are also hunting for the cup after
missing out on the league but we will maintain the focus and work hard.
“There are some of mistakes which emerged in the last match but I will
work on them ahead of our next match.”
