Odhiambo bullish as Kenya readies for World Tchoukball Beach Championship bow

Team Kenya Manager Billy Odhiambo has expressed optimism ahead of their opening matches, of the 2025 World Tchoukball Beach Championships where Kenya is set to make her debut.

This is despite a minor delay caused by unfavorable beach conditions. The tourney, now in third edition, begins Thursday in Bali, Indonesia and has brought together 10 nations from across the globe.

Kenya’s men’s team is placed in Group A alongside hosts Indonesia, India, Benin, and the Czech Republic. The women’s team will begin their campaign against the Czech Republic.

 “We were supposed to kick off our campaign against Korea. Unfortunately, the tides were so high, and we could not access the beaches. The game has been pushed to the next day,” he said.

Odhiambo noted that both teams underwent intensive training in Mombasa and Malindi before travelling to Indonesia and are in good shape for the global stage.

“Both the ladies and men’s sides have prepared well, and we expect victory from the two teams,” he added.

The men’s team recently boosted their morale with a 16-12 friendly win over hosts Indonesia, a result Odhiambo says has lifted spirits within the camp.

Kenya will face South Korea, India, Cameroon, and Benin in their group matches as they seek to leave a mark in their first appearance at the world stage.

African counterparts Cameroon and Benin are also participating in the championship, which concludes on August 10
