Oilers crowned national Sevens champions as Kabras take Kakamega
Menengai Oilers are the new national sevens champions after
topping the circuit standings with 113 points to depose KCB RFC who came second
with 105 points.
Oilers suffered a 19-07 defeat at the hands of Kabras Sugar
in the final of the last leg of the national series in Kakamega but the loss
did little to erase the shine from what has been a solid campaign.
They entered that final having already been confirmed as the
national champions when they defeated KCB in the semis.
The series had six different winners with KCB RFC
winning Kabeberi Sevens varsity side
Strathmore Leos winning the second leg of Christies.
Driftwood Sevens Champions Mwamba RFC won the third round in
Mombasa the Deejays Homeboyz winning the fourth round in Kisumu.
Newly crowned champions Menengai Oilers won Prinsloo Sevens
in Nakuru last weekend with Kabras taking the final leg.
Kabras scored three tries and converted two with Oilers
scoring a converted try.
Fijian John Kubu ran through Oilers defense after a one two
play with Alfred Orege Kubu converting to make it 07-00.
Winger Patrick lumumba made it two tries for Kabras after
receiving a pass from Kubu who missed the extras to make it 12-00.
Bildad Ogeta danced through Kabras Sugar defense scoring in
the centre post skipper Geoffrey Ominde converting to make it 12-07 at
halftime.
Brian Tanga added the third try stealing the ball after a
scrumhalf Mathius Osimbo passing to him with Tanga converting to make it 19--07
at full time.
Defending Champions KCB RFC finished third after defeating
Christes sevens champions Strathmore Leos 21-14.
Dala sevens champions finished fifth after defeating Prinsloo
sevens host Top Fry Nakuru 24-07.
