Deogracious Ojok scored a controversial stoppage time
winner to earn Tusker FC a 2-1 win over AFC Leopards at the MISC Kasarani on
Sunday.
The result put an end to Leopards’ 11-match unbeaten
streak and brought Tusker to within six points of the FKF Premier League
leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.
Leopards fell a goal behind early in the first half
after Lawrence Luvanda struck to open the scoring and the visitors responded
late through Ojo Olaniyi.
That set up some frenetic final few minutes and
somehow Tusker found a winner through Ojok as their champions boosted their
title defence bid with Homeboyz faltering yet again.
Homeboyz drew 2-2 at Kenya Police with Gaetan Masha
scoring twice to ensure the leaders pinched at least a point from what was
their third consecutive draw.
Nzoia Sugar and Ulinzi Stars drew 1-1 in the day’s
early kick off with Brian Munyendo equalizing for the hosts with a last-minute
penalty after John Kago had put Ulinzi in front in the first half.
In Kasarani, Luvanda put Tusker ahead from close range
after sidestepping goalkeeper Levis Opiyo inside the area.
The goal was later cancelled by Ojo in the 82nd minute
with a brilliant effort past Patrick Matasi.
Tusker’s first threat had come in the fifth minute
through Ibrahim Joshua's dangerous header that forced goalkeeper Levis Opiyo
into an acrobatic save.
The Robert Matano-led side made their intentions clear
with their attacking approach proving a headache to Ingwe.
Leopards had a clear chance through John-Mark Makwatta
who had been served by Cliff Nyakeya but his bullet shot went inches over the
crossbar.
Ingwe should have Joachim Ochieng to thank after
heading out an ariel ball that to was directed into the empty net by the men in
yellow.
Victor Omune made a brilliant effort to round off the
Brewers' defenders but his last shot was a weak one enough to have the opposing
teams deal with the scare.
After the restart, Leopards pulled Fasanmi Ojo from
the bench to take Eugine Mukangula's place and the Nigerian wasted no time with
his left-footed shot forcing Matasi into a fine save.
Makwatta should have equalized after being teed
through by Omune but his sliding effort against Matasi went wide inside the
58th minute
