Oktay: I cant afford to lose both Tuyisenge and Kahata

Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay has said he won’t let go of mercurial midfielder Francis Kahata, amidst the intense speculation the playmaker has fallen out of favour with a section of club’s top brass.

Speaking to Citizen Digital at their coronation ceremony at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Oktay insisted he cannot afford to lose striker Jacques Tuyisenge and Kahata at the same time.

While Tuyisenge has been linked with a move to Angolan side Petro Atletico,  Kahata’s fate is unclear as he’s out of contract by June 30.

“I would love to keep them, they are special players. One may go but we cannot let both of them go, especially the magician Kahata,” said the coach.

Kahata thereafter confirmed several suitors are seeking his services but his future at Gor will depend on the management.

“I want to thank the fans for their support all thorough. This is a special feeling today. Clubs in Africa and Europe have shown interest, if Gor can counter the offers with good money I will be here next season,” said Kahata.

Captain Harun Shakava and right-back Philemon Otieno are also said to be on their way out of the club, all having played a key role in clinching Gor’s 18th title.

Oktay will have an uphill task to keep some of his finest players who are being sought after, as he strategizes to take the now obvious local glory beyond Kenyan borders.
