Kenyan striker Michael Olunga has officially joined Qatari side Al Arabi SC on a two-year deal, marking a significant new chapter in his illustrious football career.

Olunga becomes only the second Kenyan to play for Al Arabi, following in the footsteps of Dennis Oliech, who featured for the club over two decades ago.

Olunga’s move comes after an exceptional four-year spell at Al Duhail SC, where he departed as the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, having netted a remarkable 130 goals in all competitions.

His goal-scoring prowess saw him dominate the Qatar Stars League, helping Al Duhail clinch multiple titles and earning widespread admiration.

Before his Qatari success, Olunga had lit up leagues across the globe besides his domestic stint at various Kenya Premier League clubs. In Japan, he won the 2020 J1 League Golden Boot with 28 goals for Kashiwa Reysol and was named the league’s MVP.

His 2019 season in the J2 League was equally sensational, scoring 27 league goals. His international career also boasts stints in Spain with Girona, Sweden’s Djurgården, and China’s Guizhou Heng Feng.

With speculations now called regarding his future, Olunga embarks on a fresh challenge with Al Arabi, who will be hoping the towering striker can replicate his prolific form and spearhead their domestic and continental ambitions.

With 273 goals in over 320 club appearances throughout his career, Olunga is undoubtedly one of Africa’s most lethal finishers. His consistency, adaptability, and instincts in front of the goal have made him one of the most prolific names in the Kenyan football caucus.

With Olunga expected to miss CHAN 2024, fans remain optimistic that the talisman will blend and build up his form, which they wish could be replicated and be helpful in Harambee Stars' quest for 2026 World Cup qualification in the next international break when they face Gambia.
