Olympian David Rudisha to vie for Kilgoris parliamentary seat as an Independent Candidate

Two-time Olympic champion David Lekuta Rudisha has thrust his hat in the political ring and will be gunning for the Kilgoris parliamentary seat as an Independent Candidate in the August 9 General Elections.

According to a clearance letter by the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission(IEBC), and which Citizen Digital has accessed, Rudisha has been cleared to run for the seat.

" Reference is made to the subject matter and your letter dated 29 April 2022 on the intention to contest election as Member of National Assembly, KILGORIS Constituency, "the letter  addressed to Rushidha and dated April 29 reads in part. "Pursuant to Article 85 of the Constitution and Section 34(fa) of the Political Parties Act 2011, David Lekuta Rudisha, is not a member of any registered party."

Lekuta shot to fame  at the Summer Olympic Games in London in 2012, when he won gold in 800m in spectacular fashion before retaining his title four years later in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Therefater he has struggled with injuries and attempts to return to the track has not been sucessful.

In the recent past he's kept a low profile, keeping off the public limelight and is seemingly aiming to chart a different path, trading the track for the highly charged political career.
