Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala bounced back to register his first global win of the season after storming to 100M victory at the Athletics South Africa (ASA) Grand Prix II in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The African record-holder, 29, reeled in home boys Tsebo Matsoso and Bradley Nkoana to clinch victory in 10.08 seconds.

Matsotso came home second in 10.12 seconds ahead of Nkoana, a world U-20 medalist, who timed 10.16 seconds to round up the podium.

South Africas Sinesipho Dambile timed 10.30 seconds to finish fourth as Omanyala’s compatriot Mark Odhiambo placed fifth in 10.30 seconds.

Omanyala, Commonwealth Games reigning champion, had a rough start to the new season after he finished third in 10.22 seconds, placing behind 18-year-old Karabo Letebele and fellow South African Emile Erasmus, at the ASA Grand Prix I in Pretoria last Wednesday.

It is his final South African race before heading back to Kenya to prepare for the Botswana Golden Grand Prix set for April 12 in Gaborone.

He will be returning to Botswana for the first time since 2023 when he beat home athlete and 2024 Paris Olympics Games 200m champion Letsile Tebogo, claiming victory in 9.78 seconds.
