Commonwealth
Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala continued his fine form with another
victory at the second leg of ASA Grand Prix held Wednesday evening in
Germiston, South Africa.
Omanyala
clocked 10.05 seconds to triumph ahead of compatriot Samuel Imeta who settled
for second in 10.22 seconds as Sibusiso Matsenjwa of Swaziland finished third
in 10.33 seconds.
The African
record holder improved on the 10.12 he clocked during the first leg of the race
held last week but also fell short to dip under 10 seconds.
“We are just
getting deeper and deeper as we build up towards the season and I hope we will
get it (sub-10) sooner,” said Omanyala.
The 27-year-old
will now embark on a series of races that will culminate in the Kipkeino
Classic to be held on May 13 where he will be seeking to defend his title on
home soil.
“My next
race will be the Botswana Grand Prix then I head to Atlanta before returning
home for Kipkeino Classic,” he said.
