Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala has hailed tennis superstar Angela Okutoyi for putting Kenya on the global map in a rare sport.

Omanyala witnessed Okutoyi claim the singles title after beating ena Papadakis of Germany at the ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour (W25) at the Nairobi Club on Saturday.

Okutoyi sealed a historic double at the tournament having claimed the doubles title on Friday while teaming up with Burundi’s Sada Nahimana where they outclassed the duo of Lena Papadakis and Jessie Aney.

“We are good in different sports and she (Angela) is continuing to scale that ladder which is good just like the way sprints are coming up. For me it’s the motivation that she is giving to young ladies that they can achieve whatever they are dreaming of. I can say that she is empowering the young women through the sport,” Omanyala said.

At the same time, Omanyala said he will continue supporting all sports having already launched a tennis tournament for kids.

“We are going to continue and introduce other Omanyala tournaments in different sports. My target is to develop these youngsters and to provide opportunities for them. I hope to partner with other federations in this journey,” the African record holder said on the sidelines of the tournament.
