KCB forward Derrick Otanga is still
celebrating winning the Kenya Premier League Golden Boot for his first time
ever, as the 2021/22 season came to a close on Sunday.
The former
Sony Sugar FC and Wazito FC marksman netted 16 times to emerge
top, ending the campaign on a high as he grabbed a brace against Bidco United
to edge Clifton Miheso of Police FC who scored 15.
Despite
what has been an underwhelming season for the bankers, the striker walks home
with the Golden Boot, his first in the top flight.
"I’m
happy, it is a dream come true for me. I have always wanted to win the golden
boot and I’m glad that I finally have one under my belt. Credit to my teammates
for their help, I would not have achieved this without their help," he
said.
He
further thanked his teammates for the role they played in enabling him win the
gong.
Otanga
is however coy to talk about next season plans.
"We
will see what happens next season because I still have a contract with KCB
running," he said.
Last
season, Erick Kapaito, who has since moved to Ethiopia, bagged it after scoring
24 league goals.
