Otieno steals the show at first AK Relay Series meeting

Mark Otieno stole the show during the first round of the Athletics Kenya (AK) Relay Series at the Nairobi West Prisons grounds after dominating the 100m and 200m races.

Otieno notched the sprint double, taking the 100m in 10.3 ahead of Ferdinand Omanyara (10.4) and Emmanuel Letukunye (10.5) before he won the longer dash in 21.1 with Peter Mwai and Omanyara dipping behind him to round the top three.

Damaris Akoth took the honours in the women’s 100m in 12.2 while Grace Kidake ruled the women’s 200m with 25.6.

The first three rounds of the Series will involve individual races before athletes are grouped into relay teams for the final two legs.

AK will hold the Trials for the third IAAF World Relays in Bahamas on April 1, with the remaining legs of the Series running on March 4, March 11, March 18 and March 25.

The Trials for World Relays will be by invitation with AK stating all athletes up for consideration must participate in at least three Series meetings.
