APS Bomet head coach Sammy Omollo Pamzo has come out strongly against his captain, Chris Wilunda, following an incident of indiscipline that nearly cost the team in their dramatic 3-3 Kenya Premier League draw against Shabana FC at Kericho Green Stadium.

The match lived up to expectations, producing six goals and several flashpoints. APS Bomet struck first through Philemon Nyakwaka, but Shabana responded emphatically.

Brian Olega scored twice to turn the game in their favour before Brian Michira extended the visitors’ lead to 3-1 in the second half.

As APS Bomet struggled to claw their way back, matters worsened in the 78th minute when Wilunda was shown a red card after confronting the referee over a decision, leaving the hosts with ten men during a crucial phase of the match.

Speaking after the game, Omollo did not mince his words, describing the incident as unacceptable and detrimental to the team’s cause.

“On the side of discipline, when we are down as a team, you are not supposed to get a red card. We must have a conversation about what Chris has done because these are the things that make you lose a game. Being booked because of a tackle is okay, but confronting a referee is completely unacceptable, and I will not allow such behaviour in this team,” said Omollo.

Despite the setback, APS Bomet showed remarkable character to mount a late comeback. Lawrence Kibet reduced the deficit in the 80th minute before Philip Wasai struck two minutes later to make it 3-3, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans.

While praising his players’ resilience and fighting spirit, Omollo insisted that discipline remains a non-negotiable pillar within his squad. He confirmed that the disciplinary issue involving Wilunda will be handled internally as the team prepares for their next league assignment.

The draw saw Shabana rue a missed opportunity after surrendering a two-goal advantage, while APS Bomet walked away with a hard-earned point built on determination and belief.
