Telecommunications giant Safaricom Limeted on Friday held a players and
coaches’ clinic which featured valuable lessons in skill development, social
values, teamwork, and leadership at the Dandora social Hall.
The clinic preceded the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Nairobi region
finals, which are now on in Dandora stretching to Sunday afternoon.
Speaking at the event, different coaches and players expressed
their excitement ahead of the semi finals proper. Edwin Toto, one of Dandora
Young Kings players was impressed with the unique programs Chapa Dimba has
brought, saying they go beyond football.
“Chapa Dimba has helped us so much and has brought a lot of
opportunities through the scholarships that will be given to the players and
will grant publicity to some of the players and get scouted to different clubs,”
he noted.
Dandora Young Kings coach, Andrew Oloo underlined the importance
of the training being offered to the players.
“This training is very important to the players because at their
age as it helps them to gain life skills that they lack at the moment. You see,
it is about football and life outside the football grounds,” said Oloo.
The coaches were instilled with insights into effective training
methods, tactical approaches, and ways to motivate and communicate with
players.
The clinic also involved training on the use of Safaricom’s
newly introduced GPS Sports Vests, which are AI-powered to improve players'
performance and open up scouting opportunities. They are used to capture data
about players, including total distance, speed, power plays, and power scores,
among others. This allows players to understand their strengths and weaknesses
identify areas for improvement, and more.
The winners of the Nairobi region finals will represent the
region in the national finals that are set to be held in Kisumu in April.
