Police up preps, ready to shoot down Mogadishu

Police FC have intensified training ahead of their CAF Champions League second leg preliminary match against Mogadishu City Club. The match is pencilled for Sunday 6pm at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Following their strong 3-1 victory in the first leg at the same venue last Saturday, Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije has increased the intensity of training sessions, focusing on defensive discipline and transition play to ahead of the face-off

“The opposing side had a good team that can surprise you with counter attacks, that's why we have taken precautions,” he explained.

Ndayiragije reckons the previous faceoff has greatly contributed to their preparations, with emphasis on the opponent’s weakness, which they hope to exploit at the weekend.

“They are opponents you have to be really cautious with and concentrate a lot on,” he reckoned.

Team Captain David Ochieng' added: “They are not an easy team, we must be focused and keep our guard up. We must be ready because it is going to be a hard game.”

Meanwhile Mogadishu City coach Abdirahman Ali Abubakar has praised Police FC’s depth and experience, citing seasoned players such as Harambee Stars defender and CHAN captain Aboud Omar. Still, he promised a spirited fight, noting that advancing would give his side vital exposure and attract scouts to Somali talent

“Police have quality and experienced players like Aboud Omar, and we respect that,” Abubakar said, “But we are coming to fight for every ball. If we qualify, it will be a huge opportunity to showcase Somali talent and give our players exposure to scouts and bigger competitions.”

With confidence high but caution in mind, Police FC know a strong performance in Sunday’s second leg will keep their CAF Champions League dream alive and move them one step closer to a historic group-stage appearance.
