Pomp, colour as heroic Harambee Starlets return
The national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets are currently being hosted to a luncheon at Utalii Hotel after making a triumphant return to the country this morning.
The team, returning from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where they swept all before them beating the hosts 2-0 in yesterday’s final to lift the Cecafa women title was offered a befitting welcome amidst pomp and colour at the busy airport.
Led by head coach David Ouma, the girls were met with traditional dancers shortly after disembarking from the plane, with federation officials also at hand to receive them.
Donning marching red T-shirts, they were later driven through the city streets aboard a bus whose sideways bore a huge banner with the words: “CECAFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS 2019”.
The Sunday victory as a sweet revenge to Tanzania who beat them in the 2016 final staged in Uganda.
